Anglers –

As Thanksgiving nears there continue to be sizable crowds of tourists arriving in the Los Cabos area, they are being welcomed with sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s. Winds out of the north have been moderate, midweek there were stronger gusts, limiting angler’s options, most days ocean conditions were comfortable.

After having just had one of the best bites in recent memory during the past couple of weeks for larger sized yellowfin tuna, the action dropped off to a near standstill.

The supplies of fresh sardinas were the mainstay of the bait source for the tuna action, steady chumming was the technique to bring the fish to the surface, while drift fishing using a combination of live and dead baits.

Anglers found the fishing action had really changed compared to last week, the slower all around action for fleets based out of San Jose del Cabo was due to the almost complete lack of sardinas, a low percentage of charters were able to obtain sardinas this past week, possibly if you were able to endure long waits for limited juvenile sized baits.

Lack of sardinas did limit most options for finding many yellowfin that would bite on the local fishing grounds, though the commercial purseiner fleet appears to have kept their distance and there continue to be nicer sized tuna schooling on the Gordo Banks. Several fish in the 80 to 120 pound range have been brought in the past several days and there were reports of seeing the yellowfin come into the chum, these fish were hooked on fresh chunk bait from skipjack that were caught on the same Bank.

While patiently waiting for new sources of schooling sardinas to be discovered more anglers are opting to target the elusive wahoo. Also this is time for tournament team training, as the annual local wahoo tournament based out of La Playita is set for Nov. 22. Areas from Punta Gorda to La Fortuna reported the most activity for the wahoo, trolling live caballito and an array of lures accounted for varying results, from zero to one fish, to as many as five wahoo landed. Sizes ranged from 15 pounds to as high as 50 pounds, surely it will take a nice sized log of a wahoo to take jackpot honors of the wahoo event to be held this coming Sunday.

Dorado were mixed, most of the time just being found solo or in small groups, striking equally well on live baits or trolled lures. Sizes were generally in the 5 to 15 pound class, though we did see some larger bulls up to 25 pounds brought to the docks.

Billfishing was dominated mainly by striped marlin, that are providing good action off the Old Light House, on the Pacific, also now filtering onto the Gordo Banks and the other popular fishing grounds in the direction of the Sea of Cortez. We heard reports about a handful of blue marlin being hooked up, as well as a fair number of sailfish.

The combined panga fleets launching out of La Playita/Puerto Los Cabos sent out approximately 155 charters this past week, with anglers reporting a fish count of:

11 sailfish, 12 striped marlin, 67 yellowfin tuna, 98 wahoo, 188 dorado, 25 rainbow runner and 29 bonito.

Good Fishing, Eric

Spend some time on the Mango Deck

One of Cabo San Lucas's most famous beach hangouts is Medano Beach. While you comb the shore, cool off in the surf, watch jet skiers, parasailers, or simply lie out and sunbathe, eventually you'll grow hungry and make your way to one of the many beach restaurants.

If you are looking for fun, if you are looking for something rowdy, something cheap, and something just a little bit lewd, may we suggest the Mango Deck. Mango Deck is part MTV Spring Break, part non stop Happy Hour, part live entertainment, and part one of your most memorable times on Medano Beach. Come in from the sun and enjoy some food, 2 for 1 drinks (or a beer bucket, planted right in the sand next to your table), and enjoy all the many different live events from beer chugging, sexy dances, and wet t-shirt contests.

So why not give Mango Deck a run for its money while you enjoy your holiday vacation here in Cabo San Lucas.

Give us a call here at Cabo San Lucas Villas and we will make sure to get you right on the beach.

Sabor a Cabo

In thirteen days, Casa Dorada in Cabo San Lucas, will play host to the annual Sabor a Cabo, or Taste of Cabo, an International Food Festival to promote the exquisite tastes and dining experience that is available in Cabo San Lucas. Under the full moon, on the sandy shores of Medano Beach, over twenty three restaurants and bars will join together to create delectable dishes and offer some of the finest wines for their guests that exemplify the fine tastes and aromas that are characteristic of Cabo San Lucas. For entertainment, if fine food and wine is not entertainment enough, there will be live music from a floating stage on the beautiful Sea of Cortez.

So put down on your calendars "Taste of Cabo" December 1, 2009 at 7:30pm and delight your taste buds. Make sure to take a look at the Sabor a Cabo website for more information.
